George Gilbert has practiced intellectual property law for more than 30 years, with a focus on the entertainment and new media Industries, as well as copyright, trademark and corporate matters. He was a partner at Solovoy Marshall & Edlin and The Marshall Firm, as well as an intellectual property partner at Rudolph & Beer, LLP and Dreier, LLP. In addition to his legal practice, Gilbert runs A2Z Entertainment, an independent label distributed by eOne, which has helped incubate and develop a dozen artist label ventures. Gilbert learned the basics of the music business in the national offices of Discount Records and broadened his experience working as music director at a major market FM radio station, a recording engineer and producer, a journalist and a concert promoter. Freddie DeMann brought him into Elektra/Asylum Records as a promotion manager. He went on to work at A&M Records and at ATCO Records as their Northeast Promotion Director. He formed and ran two independent labels - Upside Records, which was instrumental in reviving the career of the early R&B legend Charles Brown, and AH Records, a joint venture of Quincy Jones/Quest Records and the Tommy Hilfiger Company. Gilbert also formed an artist management company which managed Meat Loaf and Jack Bruce (Cream).
