Stephen Judge began his career in 1990 as a part-time clerk at Raleigh, NC’s Schoolkids Records, his childhood record store, quickly working his way up to full-time status and becoming a buyer for several of the store’s locations while attending NC State University (where he received two degrees in Business Management and Accounting).  He also spent seven years in artist management, working with Black Park Management (The Connells, Queen Sarah Saturday) from 1990-1993 and then striking out on his own to work with the bands Athenaeum (Atlantic), Collapsis (Cherry/Universal), and Hobex (London). In 2002, Judge then entered the world of music distribution, joining Redeye Distribution as their Sales & Marketing Director.  Over the years, he worked his way up to become A&R Director, Financial Controller and eventually General Manager before leaving in 2008 to start his own label services company and buying Schoolkids from his former boss. Today Judge owns three record stores in Triangle area of North Carolina; owns the music publication Blurt Magazine; has an active label roster (Happy Abandon, The Veldt, Tommy Keene, Bettie Serveert), is a member of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and on the Board of Directors for Music Biz. Judge also recently opened a European office in Dublin, Ireland where he lives with his wife and his step-son and they together are the coordinators for Record Store Day, Ireland.
